How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?
Hello all!
We have a lovely new mattress on our boat and just noticed there is some condensation underneath it. We did a little looking around and found an older product called "dry mat" from an outfit in England. Does anyone know of a place to get this in the U.S., or can you suggest another solution?
Thanks!

Re: How to solve condensation under the mattress??
Condensation is the product of the cold area under the bed meeting humid air.
I had that problem in several boats.
I got 2 x 8 foot sheets of the blue or pink 1 inch foam house siding base at Home depot and cut three sheets to fit under the mattress.
6 years now without condensation.

Wallmart, amazon, west marine sells the dri deck tiles. You clip them together and trim to fit. Works beautifully to help in air circulation and keep the condensation down.

Re: How to solve condensation under the mattress??
In our first winter aboard, we discovered rotted upholstery, ruined by condensation because in our newness we didn't realize what could occur. We've had this stuff for about 8 years, fulltime liveaboard including some winters in the mid-Atlantic, and zero mold since. HyperVent Marine - Product Information

We had the same problem, condensation under the matress, which is located over two of our diesel tanks.
After installing the Dr-Dek Tiles five years ago... No more problems!!!

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?
we have the dri-deck under our mattress up in the v-berth and still suffer condensation. Each morning I prop the mattress up a bit to help air it out and once a week have to tear the whole area apart to dry it. There is a small storage area right under the chain locker that seems to gather the most condensation (we leave it open to help air it out) and it runs down under the mattress from there. We even run a dehumidifier onboard.
I was seriously thinking of trying to add some of the rigid insulation under the mattress to see if that helps. It won't stop the moisture from collecting and running into the storage under the v-berth, but might stop the mattress from gathering so much moisture.
Anyone else living on a Catalina 30 with a similar issue?

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?
we're putting in slats under our mattresses as we're currently refitting the entire inside of our boat. Does anyone have experience with that? Will it be enough or will we still need the tiles?

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?
We placed our trekking mats (dense foam) underneath, this limited condensation.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Froli Sleep Systems.

No personal experience but previous threads on this and other forums the users all seemed to love them. Supposed to add comfort and ventilation.

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?
I tried many things in the first 4 years living aboard in Canada.
Then I used the pink foam insulation boards under the mattress, nothing else.
The mattress is dry and the cabin is warmer. Six years like this now.
I leave it in all year as it also cut the air conditioner noise/rumble way down on the unit under the berth.

We use the Froli and have been quite happy with the performance for around 5 years.

Having the same issue here! V berth cushions are soaked but only underneath and dead center, which happens to be right over top of our water tank. Glad to know that its most likely condensation instead of a mysterious leak that occurs even when it hasn't rained for days....
I think we'll try using that insulation foam.
