Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?

We have used the Victoria star which can be assembled to meet pretty much any shape for the last 5 years. Zero condensation and much increased comfort.

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?

We had been looking for a solution for this problem for a long time.
The Other Gary had the solution that worked for us. We purchased 1" thick pink foam from Home Depot last week and put it under the bed this weekend and now it has been bone dry under there. Thank you The Other Gary for that cheap easy solution.

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?

One time, we bought sea grass door mats, 4 for each side of the double berth. I tied them together loosely, to make one pad for each side. They allowed air circulation and cost $2.00 Australian each 6 yrs. ago. Jim did not like the smell of the sea grass, so we got rid of them, and bought closed cell backpacking/camping foam sized for a double sleeping bag, which we bonded to the underside of the mattress, leaving some small air space all around. We do not go to extremely cold places, and both solutions have worked well for us in the tropical places we frequent.

Does not memory foam gather moisture from the body... and if it does how does it drain if there's vinyl underneath..
Sorry.. only experience with memory foam was on a delivery..
did not like it so rolled it up and just used the cushions

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?

i had holes drilled under my cushions in the vee berth of my ericson--no problem with condensation after that.

my formosa has spaces between slats supporting my mattress, so i havent the problems you guys complain of....try it--could well work for you as well.....

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?

Although it was mentioned on Page 1, I'd like to cast my vote for the Froli system; it turns a camping foam mattress into a real one and eliminates any condensation.

Re: How to Solve Condensation Under the Mattress?

people overthinking a situation always spend lots of money on the problem....just cut holes in the board on which the mattress lies..no more condensation problems and saved a ton of dough trying to solve a problem known forever, and cured as i have done...
works every time, also, and isnt pricey.

As much as I tend to disagree with you on most things, I think you're right on the money on this. The only advantages of other solutions is strength (when you don't cut holes but use mesh instead), or degree of air circulation and general comfort (when use those springy, narrow, and perpendicular boards* underneath).

caracal--i do what is practical, handy and cheap to do --i dont go in for the pricey bs and flaunting of riches that seem to be the way of most yotties.
what i say i do i actually have done and is what i do and works well out here where i am doing what i am doing, which is cruising in paradise. you do not need to agree with me for things to function....rodlmao

Bed bottoms are "flaunting of riches"?

In any case, I was agreeing with you, that it would be able to reduce humidity and increase airflow by your method.

Yes, but those things I mentioned would also work "cruising in paradise" (air circulation is even more important in high latitudes).
There are some advantages to other solutions, but as a solution using what is available, cutting holes will obviously work.

oddly, one thing that works on the cheap seems to be astroturf (fake grass). It allows enough air circulation for the moisture to evaporate.
