Re: How to Hang a Hammock ?

mine are loosely woven stuff that allows air thru and doesnt hurt the bod when in use.
mine can be installed between foresail and main mast, as that seems to be only place to install onmy boat. my neighbor installs his in same location on his boat...
i dont have enough beam for shroud to mizzen installation, and i have a mizzen so shroud to shroud doesnt work...i could do shroud forward to shroud mizzen......half over water.....

i like that cover idea--but it would be a lil dodgy while in a rolly anchorage...

and you forgot the drink holder.....

Re: How to Hang a Hammock ?

My whisker pole is 13' long and my boom is 15' long so I guess that either/both are a possibility, I could leave boom in boom gallows or swing out over the water.

Re: How to Hang a Hammock ?

If you can't do a hammock between the mast and the furled headstay, a whisker pole is the solution. Just sling the hammock end to end on it, adjust its length to set how much droop you want, and support it with the mast and a halyard. Guy the outboard end of it fore and aft to lock it in place.

If you attach the hammock at the ends of the pole, it doesn't have to be strong because all it takes is a compression load.

Look into Mayan hammocks. hand-woven on looms. more net than anything, and cool in a sea breeze.

I too have roller headsail. For the head stay mount I use a spare halyard led down the head stay to take most of the vertical strain and a strap around the head stay to keep it forward.

A spinnaker tack strap works nicely for this.

We have a roller furler and hang the Hammock between the mast and head stay.

I tie the hammock off to the mast on the aft end.

On the forward end I attach the hammock to an ATN Tacker with the second jib halyard attached to it to keep it from sliding down.

Works great!

Re: How to Hang a Hammock ?

Odd, I had never given much thought to this. My covered cockpit has a pair of supports about 2/3 of the way back and i just put the ropes of my camping hammock around each - takes about ten seconds per side. The cover keeps off the sun but the breeze still comes through and of course the sides and aft are open. I have thought about trying to rig a second hammock from the dingy davits or between the bows. Once I get the hang of rigging my shade tarps, I have thought of rigging a hammock under it. So many projects, so little time.

Re: How to Hang a Hammock ?

This is a topic after my own heart. I haven't bought my boat yet but figuring out how to rig a hammock in the shade will be one of the first things I do. I've found that in the tropics open woven hammocks like the Merida style hammocks are cooler and singles still pack down to the size of a loaf of bread.

I rig multi-hammocks on a multihull, each attached at the forestay and opposite side stays. I use small line to extend the connections long enough and rolling hitches to secure to rigging.

Also rig one between the davits sometimes, but find most people wont sit in it because it is over the water.

Re: How to Hang a Hammock ?

I tie the rope around the furled yankee on one end and around the mast on the other. When it's lumpy bumpy out I can almost do a barrel roll.
