Re: How To Eradicate My Sailboat Of Spiders
I have found that windex with simple green mixed in does the job. Gotta spray right on them, but kills very well, and not toxic to you. The find and destroy method worked for me.

I have used peppermint oil. Water it down 10 drops for a quart of water. Spray where you see they are and keeps them away. Use as needed but it smells peppermint!

Yes. Masking tape the hatches, anchor chain hole and ER vents. I shoot for 80% CO2 for at least 24 hrs.

How To Eradicate My Sailboat Of Spiders
Used this several times for Brown Recluse bites. Once on myself. It works.
The sooner after the bite, the better.

I use peppermint oil. It seems to work well and gives off a great fresh scent. I mix about 16 drops of the oil to 8 oz. of water in a small spray bottle. Just spray around their hangouts. I use it inside the cabins as well.

Re: How To Eradicate My Sailboat Of Spiders
I never would have thought boaters had such a problem with spiders before this thread. I'm sure my boat has them, but I've never seen them.

Re: How To Eradicate My Sailboat Of Spiders
I don't mean to dismiss the concern for those that may be more sensitive to spiders, but I pretty much ignore them. Sometimes, while cleaning, I'll notice some spots on my deck and I flush out the spiders at a point above this mess or I'll run my hose under my rub rail which seems to be a favorite location. I wipe or brush away the webs, but I leave a few jumping spiders alone in my cockpit. They avoid me and I assume they're responsible for some pest control.

god's little creatures, how sad. Actually I am a non-believer, but I think the spiders capture stuff that I do not like; natures moderator, I do not kill them.

Re: How To Eradicate My Sailboat Of Spiders
Depends on the type of spider. The same with snakes, biting dogs, big cats and bears.
I can't let poisonous or dangerous critters hang around my brood.

Very sensible philosophy. But of course, of the 3,000 different species of spiders that you might find in North America, only two of them pose any significant danger to humans. Those being the Brown Recluse and the Black Widow. The rest do more good than harm.

Re: How To Eradicate My Sailboat Of Spiders
Starbrite Spider Away
Works GREAT and is non toxic so you can use it anywhere, galley, sleeping berth, around pets, etc.
It is a repellent, not a poison. Oil of peppermint active ingredient with a bit of vinegar in water. You can make a version yourself, I did, but prefer to just buy it. Spray o a spider on a web and it will bolt like a cattle prod went up its ass.
I use liberally early in the season and touch up as needed. If a bad year might buy another bottle late in summer. Again, it is completely safe so no worries about washing off in rain and getting in the waterways where a poison with kill crucial small critters. If it blows back on your face in a breeze, no worries. Spray the cabin liner above your sleeping berth, no worries. I also spray around the edges of hatches and drawers.
Can't recommend it enough.
