How Do You Spot a Liveaboard / Cruiser or Their Boat ?

Lots of fuel and water containers on deck, plants in the cockpit, and everything they own tied around the deck.

these days you can spot the non liveaboard/cruiser by the prep work pre-hurrycame.....those of us who cruise are working to keep safe and the expats in condos are not to be seen......

Here is our full time liveaboard/cruiser. We have been aboard for about 6 years now and although I am sure it shows that we are liveaboards I do not believe we look as bad as some of these posts have described
lievaboards. I am not sure why there are so many negative posts regarding liveaboard cruisers as most that we see out cruising are very nice boats that are well kept and loved.

I agree. I guess stereotypes are just part of human nature. We've seen a lot of them, people living on land compared to sheep, etc., but to characterize live-aboards as having junk everywhere on their boats just isn't right.

If the BBQ is permanently welded to the pushpit, good chance it's a liveaboard.

Yesterday I was anchored in close proximity with three Westsail 32s. By close proximity I mean that all four boats were anchored within a 100 meter radius. All three Westsails were using anchor snubbers, which indicates an all-chain rode, and all three had windvanes mounted to the transom. Those two signs reassured me that I had nothing to worry about in terms of being close.

westsail 32s were born with aries windvanes---the snubber part is the giveaway for cruising those, methinks......

Were liveaboards and think keeping stuff on deck is not for us, we bought a boat that the storage in lockers are big enough to stow all our stuff including extra disel cans. We want to be the cleanest looking boat that we can so if out in a storm we won't get extra windage from stuff just the low profile design our boat should have and our dock mates like our neetness instead of stuff on walkways and the boat's deck.

We do have: Rescue pod on deck not locked ready to use
2 large solar pannels
all chain rode and heavy anchor, 2 extra anchors w/chain
Dingy on davit with motor ready to go with combination locks
Musical instruments we play regularly instead of using power
Great navication gear and satalite weather

In a crowd, the liveaboards are the ones with the small back pack, salt worn shoes, less jewelry, everything they wear has a touch of that "un-ironed" look. A jaunty hat of some sort is likely also and they will be grabbing every vegetable that keeps well they see..... Oh, and they're tho ones asking: "do you know where I can get unwashed fresh eggs?"

unwashed fresh eggs keep for 5 weeks , as do the washed ones.
some full time cruisers have projects in progress which make them stand out a lil from the ones who spent way too long at a dock before leaving or who bought brand new and outfitted with plenty of dough......we full time cruisers with constant projects, i think, have more fun than those with pristeen boats and less to worry about as far as being victimized is concerned. we LOOK broke..lol

They are the ones walking up the dock at 9:00am with a towel under their arm and a shaving kit in their hand with the gate key attached to the shaving kit... Capt Phil

some of us shower on board...LOL but we seek food at certain times every day....

They have pets onboard and take them out for walks during the day.

They carry an automobile on their boats.
