Healthcare in Florida on the Exchange Under 65 years old

I am looking to source healthcare on the exchange in Florida based in Clay County. We will be cruising the East Coast and Bahamas. Looking for suggestions on what providers have services available in the widest geographical area either in Florida or beyond?

Any comments on your level of satisfaction with the provider you selected?

Things That Always Surprise Foreigners About American Health Care
Although it’s counterintuitive, not every country views their hospitals as profit-driven, corporate playgrounds. Here are things that always surprise foreigners, about American health care.

You Can Spell It As “Healthcare”, Or “Health Care”
This is just one of many examples of the truly amazing freedoms Americans enjoy.

All you can do is start an application and at end see what you choices are. We are Jacksonville residents far as this goes and have had Am Better for 4 years. It has worked fine except for their recent change to only doing a 30 day prescription refill. We even found urgent care in MS.

It of course is worthless in the Bahamas.

Hilarious, Gord! I love The Onion.

This point on their list was pretty funny...

Mike, I am under 65, use clay county as my address and have used healthcare.gov for 2 years. I use a broker and he has been terrific to help navigate and with my decision process. I have Florida Blue which I'm very happy with. And because of costs or whatnot I have changed my plan selection each year. I chose Millennium Physcian group as they have several offices all over the state. My primary is in Fernandina Beach as my thought is if I had an issue where I needed follow up care the office / hospital is just a few miles from the marina/ anchorage area. Hope this helps!

If you don't qualify for a subsidy on the exchange-use a broker and buy your insurance direct because the same plan (albeit under a slightly different code name) will usually be substantially cheaper. On the other hand, if you qualify for a subsidy, the exchange can definitely offer a financial benefit. Strange but that's how the subsidies/exchange work.

I have always gotten a subsidy but do to a change in family makeup, I may no longer. I do know my zip code is in 2 different counties and one is much more expensive than the other.

Very interesting an exactly equivalent policy on and off the exchange is different price....

We just did that trip.

For long term overseas travel https://www.geobluetravelinsurance.com/

Florida Blue PPO is the only plan in the US with nationwide coverage. Costs around $200 Mo. with subsidy. Just use Healthcare.Gov and look for a FB PPO nationwide network.
The Brokers I tried were all selling indemnity plans that paid a fixed amount.
If you need ACA help go to healthsherpa.com the ACA exchange people are not familiar with full time travelers and will steer you into an HMO plan.

Don't forget evacuation / rescue insurance / and unlimited towing. Guy online told me that your Bahamas cruising permit includes rescue and evac, but I haven't confirmed.

Florida Blue has been our choice and is only Florida insurer that I am aware of that covers nationwide, as well as international coverage. You must get a PPO, not an HMO.

For evacuation, everyone should purchase either DAN insurance through their scuba program, or the DAN boater insurance. If you’re an SSCA member, you get DAN Boater for $50 for the first year.

You may be “covered” with the PPO but aren’t you “out of network” if not in Florida?

Ambetter is probably going to be most flexible for out-of-state. I have a fellow agent/broker who works in Florida and can help you figure out a plan. You're better off working with an agent. We get paid by the insurance company, so you do not pay for the consultation.
Let me know if you'd like their contact info, you can PM me. I cover NH and ME.
