And, +1 for Captain Ron. Flipping hilarious! Here in Annapolis, our motley crew of sailing buddies is planning a "Captain Ron" movie night over in the marina lounge. We all love that movie, even my son. And since our boat's a "fixer-upper," my son makes analogies to it all the time (for better or for worse).

Cheers,

Hey Octopussy, what's the story behind your boats name? I only ask because one of my favorite authors of all time wrote the script for that movie.

Minaret,

Well, we have always loved that movie. We are HUGE James Bond movie buffs. Have any bets for what we're going to name our dingy?

First off, we just think the name is HOT! Maud Adams, classic Bond... awesome.
And, it's going to look great on the side of our boat! Renaming our sailboat artist's graphics | S/V Octopussy

Also, if you read the "cast and crew" page of our blog, we always joke that Octopussy is actually the "Commander" i.e. like Commander Bond. She's still in the Navy and has the "spooky" job.

Here's a blog post that delineates some of the reasons why.
Why Rename Her Octopussy? | S/V Octopussy

And, we also firmly believe that boats/ships should be named after women... here's another blog post where we wrote about our name!

And finally, since we've got a catamaran, you can kind of play out the whole Octopussy[cat] thing.

It all just kind of works for us-- on several levels!

Cheers,

S/V Octopussy

Re: good boat movies?

Read the book many many years ago. I'm sure no one died. I don't even think the whale snark bumped the raft.

It was a great adventure and a great read. I hope the movie is not to far off the real story.

Yeah, it's not out in the US yet, I'm going to see it on the 10th. Just hoping a European member might have already seen it, and be able to tell me whether to get my hopes up or not. The original is on YouTube. This one looks a bit shark heavy, but it could be fun anyway!

Re: good boat movies?

I remember a movie and I only saw part of it. I would like to get that movie and watch the whole thing. It was about a group of friends who went out in the ocean on a huge sail boat and they all ended up in the ocean and could not get back on board...Anyone know that movie?
