Going to Venice FLA

My wife and I will be in the Venice area over Memorial Day weekend and then some. Is there anyone in the area that we could come and meet to learn a bit about the life style. We are moving towards becoming live aboard / cruisers with in the next few years and this is our first fact finding mission. We are currently in the mid west on the Mississippi just north of Hannibal MO.
So we have a way to go.
We are looking forward to any replies or advice.
