Gifts

What are good small gifts to have aboard, to give out to locals when you're cruising?

Re: Gifts

Depends on where you are. Different value is placed on different items. For example in more remote places shotgun shells will make you extremely popular.

Re: Gifts

Friends that circumnavigated said the best gifts were

coloring books, crayons, juvenile books (if English speakers) any basic kid stuff
tee shirts with logos of almost anything
cigarettes

by far gifts for the children were the most popular.

In many remote places shotgun shells will make you incarcerated.

Much better option are fishhooks or other fishing gear.

I was not suggesting they take shotgun shells (although they can be popular) lol. My point was that what is most appreciated varies by destination.

Re: Gifts

Going to depend on the region, we gave out fishing gear, bush knives, clothes, (especially kids clothes) duct tape and occasionally petrol and two stroke oil.

Just about anything manufactured is useful to them.

Re: Gifts

Ask your consulate in the area you're going to cruise in.
