European canals

I'm probably not in the right forum area, but.....
My wife thinks that it would be very fine to give up ocean walloping for a while and get a barge type vessel and go cruising through the canals of Holland, France etc, and I agree that it all looks very picturesque. The trouble is that we know next to nothing about it.
We would love to hear from anyone who has had experience in this lifestyle.

Haven't been there, want to go. So, no personal experience but I have found a few websites with interesting information. Somewhere in my computer I think I have several but they don't pop up at the moment.

Here is one to start on. Good for research and day dreaming.
