Eberspacher - user error! HELP

Despite being fully aware of the need to shut the eber (D2 blown air) down using the eber control to allow the unit to go through its shut down I accidentally flicked the main battery switch shutting the eber down. Realising my mistake I switched back on immediately and although the warm air was blowing round the cabin the unit did not seem to be working. The tick tick of the fuel pump was conspicuous by its absence. I left the fan on for 10 mins then shut down.

Is damage inevitable?

What is the chance of the unit working correctly having been left for a few hours?

Is there a re set procedure I might have to go through?

It's probably fine.
Worst case, you might have to restart it once or twice.
If it refuses to start, you might possibly have tripped a resettable hot limit thermostat on the unit itself.
Look for a small (probably red) button near one end. If you push down on it and hear or feel a slight click, it was tripped. If it won't push down, it hasn't tripped.

Thanks for reply. Only recently bought the boat. I am going to the boat today hoping it will fire up as usual.

Since posting I have been googling and have discovered if it has an overheating fault there are 3 possibilities depending on where the unit detected the overheating. I now understand fault codes will have been produced but as I do not have the type of controller in the cabin (701 or 801) that will read codes specialist equipment is required which I do not have. It seems the codes are likely to be 12 or 13 or 17. Fault codes 12 and 13 are re set by the unit by switching off and on. Code 17 requires return to dealer.

I am pretty sure I read all this on a reliable site.

If you have the simple on/off controller with temperature set knob them you can read fault codes. It will flash the LED on the control to indicate faults. You count the flashes to get a code. Some flashes may be longer than others too.

Turning off the power while it is running will not cause any error code. It will almost certainly start again. If not watch for the flashing code.

Delighted to say it fired up normally this morning and had the cabin toasty in no time at all. Have only recently bought the boat and have been concentrating on getting it into sailing condition, new halyards, lazy jacks etc.

I do have the simple controller in the cabin, had no idea fault codes could be read from the flashes, thanks.

A lot to learn.

Mike,

Over the last 8 years I have had a few issues similar to your recent post.
I have found that to pull the fuse on the unit to completely isolate power from the unit will allow it to reset. Never failed with this method.
