Yep, I mentioned this a few posts back. It does work/help, but don't expect them to extract nearly as much water as the bigger units. But it's small, and for it's size, it does work.

We bought a tiny little EvaDry at Ace Hardware for about $30 - just for the V-birth and drain it into the sink. It barely keeps up but does help. A friend recently bought a 25 pint/day unit from Lowes for $150 and although much larger (12" X 14" X 25") seems to keep his 35' nice and dry. I think we'll be upgrading to the Lowes unit.

DeLonghi.....Model DEN500P. Bought this brand of de-humidifier last year at Costco -- $180, with a built-in pump to pump water UP up to 12 feet (into the sink) Has worked great for two summers on the hard here in St Augustine. Set the desired humidity and forget it.

when i was living aboard in marinas i found the best dehumidifier was actually the incandescent lightbulb.
i had 2 lamps and left them on when i was not home and the boat stayed dry.
even in rainstorms.
a dry bilge helps also--some arent dry, and the boat will feel damp ....

Air Dryer Dehumidifier
I am hoping that somebody may want to share thier experiences with the Air Dryer Dehumidifier. I know that it has been brought up on this thread before...it is that time a year again.
I know that sound is relative on a boat. We just purchased an Air Dryer from wm and it makes a lot more noise than what we would expect. Probably about the same amount of sound that a computer fan does when the hd is taxed.
I am just curious if somebody has a similiar dehumidifier and if they have the same amount of noise level coming from thier dehumidifier?
Mike

The fan noise, you describe, is “normal”.
The West Marine Air Dryer is made for them, by Caframo, and uses a low wattage heating element, and an internal fan to both heat and circulate the air. They claim it to be “effective in areas up to 1000 cubic feet” (ie: 16 x 10 x 6.25'), however NOT to be used in humid areas like bath &/or laundry rooms.

We have been using this model, http://tinyurl.com/32cvu52
for a long time and it has a quiet mode which makes it almost unnoticeable. Chuck

Dittos on the Soleus unit above. This is our 4th year coming with ours, and it runs ALL the time, and hasn't missed a lick. The bigger unit takes a drain hose, so there's no worrying about emptying it.

Mike,
I use four of the Air Dryer Dehumidifiers from WM on my Leopard 42' Catamaran, one in each cabin, in conjunction with five solar exhaust vents, one in each head and one in the salon. This system has really helped manage the moisture and mold during extended storage on the hard in Honduras.

Another vote for the Soleus. The West Marine Air Dryer works OK in a closet but is NFG for a whole boat,

As a Soleus lover, the one thing I CAN think of I don't like is that with a power failure, it does not restart.

That has been my single gripe also. You can plug it into a UPS if it happens a lot. Chuck
