Dehumidifier - will it make a difference?

Agreed, CarinaPDX. I do not use the fan/wick/cool units - you must clean them weekly with bleach and use anti-bacterial anti-mold additives. The wicks are expensive and nothing more than spore dispersal units.

I use old-fashioned Vicks-style steam units - cheap and self-sanitizing. Once a month I chip out the mineral deposits or trash them.

I am running 4 Vicks units in the house as I type this - wicked stahm blowin' outside.

I wouldn't use them in a boat though. dripping windows and dripping ceilings in a boat are condensation caused by lack of insulation, not excessive Relative Humidity.

Humidity on a boat is dramatically increased by living aboard. Cooking, showering and even breathing add a lot of moisture. It is certainly exasperated by the poor insulation of fiberglass boats. I have used electric dehumidifiers in winter conditions aboard and it makes a dramatic difference.

One point I didn't mention that made mine all work - I had a Fairclough Canvas cover.

A sunny day would really warm it up, and I could run a heater above decks too. two doors plus two covered vents. bubble wrap on hatches. open the companionway when cooking. a little dark below decks but pretty nice otherwise.

dehumidifiers work especially well in cooler weather since they do give off heat. i found the smallest one that does the job at amazon .. the ivation 11 pint model. it keeps the inside nice and dry at around 45% or 50%. check it out.
