I haven't been here very long but sexism and some racism appears to be par for the course in some threads here. Sadly. In 2020.

Or...........

When we moved into a new house a friend asked my wife if there was a dishwasher. "Yes," she replied, "but he doesn't get home from work until 5."

No, only a couple of weeks, and already a 153 posts, and already comments like this, I bet you would be fun to hang around with.

Re: Decadence

Our Community Rules that everyone agrees to follow when they join CF state that we should treat each other with respect, as we would in an anchorage or at sea, and that we "be nice." Both racism and sexism are hard to justify under that definition.

Please do not allow this benign thread to devolve into a bun fight, guys, nor send it into oblivion.

In the cold, a heater to warm the cabin and dry the air.

In the heat, an AC to cool the cabin and dry the air.

Decadence?

That is what one does not have, but knows that others have.

As this is an amusing thread, I’ll throw in AI based autopilot. It doesn’t only know how best to get you where you want to go, it knows better where you should go.

Re: Decadence

Decadent is what other people have, “normal” is what I have.

An example being an older couple who were good sailing friends sitting in our cockpit chatting. The wife looked down into our cabin and saw the sunlight sparkle off the Waterford crystal ship's decanter. “Allan, do you know what that costs?” I smiled and replied, “Yes Pauline and you could afford it if you wanted one.”
-Wonder what she would have said if she'd looked in the galley drawer and had

seen the 4 place settings of sterling silver?

-Some years later--in the USVI--I bought 4 of the 8 oz tumblers in the same

pattern.

PS: Our boat was 32' fiberglass sloop and had a home-build plywood dinghy with no outboard.

Agree! We got them at home on all our toilets. We’re in process now of selecting our retirement vessel and believe it or not, one consideration is toilet design and configuration. Some of those OEM custom builds or Italian yachts aren’t conducive to Toto Washlets. We seniors need our comfort. Mrs also wants a fireplace. I say no open flames on a boat except perhaps a rail mounted bbq. Maybe an electric fireplace?

As for the ice from dodgy bars in third world tropical countries, add enough rum and you should be ok!!!!
Hi. Agree! I did also state earlier that RO water maker is only way to go. Ice cubes and cooking and bathing then all safe. For us, basic necessity. Bottled water? Nope. Not safe, even in G7 countries. Estrogen like chemicals leach from the plastic. Little quality control over contents. You may not get sick immediately but long term use is somewhat risky.

Wife’s minimum list to get her aboard, mine too, RO plus UV system on water plus enough storage for lengthy shower and hair washing daily, dish washer, washer and dryer, trash compactor, full HVAC with multiple zones, fully enclosed and weather proof flybridge, hot tub, satelliteTV, satellite phone, satellite internet., aft cockpit for easy boarding or jumping (stepping) onto a dock, tender with Bimini in case it rains. Oh, a king bed in master. Ooooh, my wallet hurts.

Re: Decadence

I thought about this for a bit before replying and I'd have to say that for me decadence is;
- I boat that I can stand on, especially one that has more than one seating arrangement (such as kayak).
- having a boat on a mooring that is mine free and clear and I can sail whenever and wherever I want.
- that boat having an odor free composting head for the cost of a funnel, some coir, and a little sweat.
- enough room to store food, clothes, water, dog toys, etc.
- having a boat big enough that I can bring both the dogs - a boat that doesn't shift wildly as they move around the boat. (Again, think kayak)
- being able to lounge in the boat and sleep in it overnight
- having an anchor locker instead of a lose pile of smelly rode.
- having a boat big enough to bring friends on

Funny how that works.

Oreos in the pantry is pretty decadent too. Even the dog thinks so.

Having every port on the boat open, and conversely dog down water tight, is pretty decadent also.

HA! If asked she would say that she keeps me around for changing the oil. In 49 years of marriage we have worked out our relationship to our satisfaction. Your mileage may vary.
