We used Aliv and were very pleased with it, never had an issue. Plenty of bandwidth, could stream Netflix etc easily

Did you use a LTE router hotspot?

We used Island Wifi and were very happy with it. We used 100GB+ per month.

Seconded. Though I believe they may be changing their service agreement, as it had been abused thoroughly last winter by some of their customers.

No just a cheap phone, in our case a used I phone 5 as we have iPhones, and activating another one copies everything to the new phone, contacts etc
Used iPhone 5’s go for $60 or $70.
Everybody’s unlimited plan has a “fair use policy” that is a limit.
Aliv‘ s unlimited plan was 300GB a month.

I don’t understand what a hotspot gives you that a phone doesn’t?

Aliv’ s plans

I'm in and out of the Bahamas fairly regularly and crew sign up for all kinds of things.

BTC is still better than Aliv, especially in the out islands. No data on service in the Abacos since Dorian. My Island WiFi is brilliant for heavy users of data. I think the main offices of My Island WiFi are on Grand Bahama - they have US offices in Florida but I'm not sure who was where when the hurricane hit.

I am a beta for their US service (not yet working at all well), so have a bit more info, maybe...

They went from $100/mo to $75/mo; I subscribed when I last went to Abaco, and the service was great.

It's pretty tough to abuse their service in that it's truly unlimited - they have double-digit subscribers who use over a terabyte a month, and several into two-digit terabyte use per month.

Aside from not returning (and thus you'd lose your deposit) the unit when you're finished, there's not much opportunity to finagle or abuse, in that the unit is limited to 10 subscribers, whether original or guest.

It uses a different band than the normal cell service, called G5 (which is not 5G); there's less use, so there's no congestion, signal is stronger (no competing with a few hundred on the same band), yada, yada.

That said, it rides on Batelco, so if you're going to the Abacos, Aliv is the game in most places, they having all their system back up other than some smaller out islands which are coming online as I type. Once BTC is back up, MiFi will again be the game to attend in Abaco; for now it's the one to use everywhere else.

Leo (the owner) will ship you one to arrive just before you leave here in the US; it's simpler for anyone other than where there's an actual office in the Bahamas...

YMMV but that's my experience. I wish they had their US system solved, as I'm tired of the games with T-Mobile...

This just in from Leo/MiFi:

We are now piggie backing off of aliv as well while BTC is repairing their towers. Btc and aliv did a contract allowing this. I just got back from Bahamas and it works perfect.

Good to hear. Leo is running a great company. I would definitely use his service if it makes it to the Caribbean.
