Re: Crocs will kill you
Crocs are the epitomy of ugliness. How on earth did they ever achieve the success they enjoy. I'm baffled. Such ugliness will destroy your soul and without a soul you might as well be dead. Worse, you destroy the soul of those around you. That is how crocs kill. Don't do it people.

Re: Crocs will kill you
It seems commercial fishermen wear boots, white seems to be the preference ? Divers seem to wear divers boots?
Those in the yacht club wear Top Siders.
I guess it is a matter of preference.
Doubt if seen any in crocs.

If you wear a cast on your arm what happens to the muscles? They atrophy. I believe the same thing happens to your feet with conventional foot wear.

You ever seen the feet on an aborigine type person? Holy cow, they look completely different than what we got.

Re: Crocs will kill you
I wore crocs for years but no more, as the grip wears down they become deadly in the wet. And keens are good but get them wet and they stink plus a they cost a couple of hundred bucks over here. Back to time tested thongs (flip flops, jandles etc).

Re: Crocs will kill you
Woops something went astray there.
So besides the good features mentioned, they also clean up easily .....with a small water blaster. Makes them like new. Just remember to remove your feet first!
Major downside. They lose their tread non skid pattern quickly and then become very dangerous on smooth wet surfaces such as concrete or tiles.
Try smearing the undersides with silicon elastomer or other boaty stuff.

Re: Crocs will kill you
Crocs.
Ah yes.
A. They don't ever smell. Tested by my mutt. Mind you, he isn't particularly discriminating.
B. They float.
C.They aren't all that expensive if you buy the models from the supermarkets. The "originals" are grossly overpriced.
D.They are generally very comfortable.
E. They make a style statement ..... namely "I just don't care".
F.When they get grubby, they can easily be made to look brand new by use of a small water blaster. It really works.
In Australia we also have a much more interesting collection of crocs. Give them a wide berth. Although they do like human legs.

I don't have my own boat, so my opinion is limited to just crewing on a small craft in monthly lake races...but, I generally wear Converse AllStars..rubber bottom for decent traction, light canvass with "air holes" in the side..have not gotten them swamped, but I'd assume they drain fairly well. They dry fairly quickly also...and a good wind blows right through them so your feet don't get all hot and sweaty..

Well..... To be honest, when I read the article I immediately thought about boaties. Cause a lot of us seem to be married to those ugly things. so I posted it as a lark
I'd never imagined that so many people would respond seriously!
However it's interesting to read what people put on their feet or not. Personally I never walk the deck barefooted. I tend to wear a pair of docksides or a pair of leather flip flops with good grip that I replace when the bands start to stretch.
Edward.

Re: Crocs will kill you
Funny coincidence - in the coastal ecology program I led before I retired we require students to bring Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star high tops, because they are the only shoe we've found that can't be sucked off a person's foot in Georgia salt marsh mud. You should see what that stuff does to a Dansforth/Fortress anchor.
