Croc for Liveaboard

I wear plain old Newbalance tennis shoes. They grip well, are inexpensive and protect your toes well enough.

Swisscraft, I second your posting. I too heard Croc were the way to go for boating shoes. When I started researching them I found so many styles and wasn't sure which one would provide to be the least slippery. After reading these posts I will not be purchasing CROCS. Thanks everyone.

Too sweaty and slippery. Really really uncomfortable when it's hot as you slip and slide inside the things. Bought them for the grand-kids but they won't wear them either... in retrospect $45 usd for plastic - even for 3 year olds?? really? i will never drink rum and shop again... for shoes... made of plastic, ever, never.

When stationary, I wear my construction boots or barefoot. My Westsail is too rough to pamper with fancy boat shoes.

A few years ago I discovered that CROCS have really good downwind performance. Dropped one overboard, reached to pick it up....just then a gust of wind hit....wow, it took off!

Have found that Keen's are the best for the boat. They have a wide covers over the toes, but the sandals are well made, have great support, are comfortable, and provide slip free soles.

they need to encompass your foot securely. no Clog styles. Once wet, rubber-ish shoes tend to slide out and cause you a twisted ankle etc.

Of friend of mine has several pairs of these.....we make fun of him.....he loves them and no matter how much grief we give him won't wear anything else sailing his Inter 20.

Keenes are good. The original Keene's were designed by a sailor for sailing.

Gotta watch those Boat Shoes-some of those Sperry's had no grip. I slipped on the top step of our walk up transom & bounced down the steps on MY transom (ouch) & my husband slid off the top dock step because it was damp (took those shoes back- ridiculous for boat shoes!!)

I wear deck shoes when I'm working on the boat to keep from breaking a toe but prefer bare feet or my Tevas (if I can't be barefoot).
