Creating more storage

Hi all -

I'm on a Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41 catamaran. It seems that only 1/2 of the space under the aft bunks is made available for storage. The open space is the 1/2 closest to the door, easiest to get to.

It looks as if there could be another 16 square feet...ish... in the 1/2 farthest aft, closest to the engine rooms. It seems to be a space with no access, not from the cabin, not from the engine room, no access.

Has anyone opened this space up?

There was a similar space in the forward cabin that was modified by the prior owner and it is used for the watermaker and the port VacuFlush tank with no problems.

I'd love to hear from anyone with experience.

Thanks,

// John

Re: Creating more storage

Have you tried cutting an access port under the mattress to have a look? Or calling Fountaine-Pajot to ask them? Since there's 9 hours time difference from Ensenada an email might be easier. It certainly looks like it should be deep enough to hold something, since the engines, further aft, are down pretty low. Photos of boats for sale show that there may be hoses entering the spaces from the engine compartments, so it may not be entirely open under there.
