Crazy pricing for Las Olas Marina in Ft Lauderdale

That sounds about right for Las Olas. And you get kicked out in November for the boat show! If you really want to feel abused go down the river a bit to Pier 66! We were lucky and found a slip behind a house right by the 17th street bridge for 1000 a month. But no liveaboards officially allowed on the canals so discretion is required. Owners let us use laundry, pool and BBQ and driveway for car as they were not there. Best deal ever!

"Official" marinas in FT L have been ridiculous for decades. Try a slip behind an apartment building in the Las Olas area. We watched the Xmas parade of boats there one year. 100-150 footers. One with live tigers on the foredeck. All with supermodels prancing around...

No liveaboards in the canals now? When we were there they had installed septic extraction hoses to the slips....?

We live in Coconut Grove, just miss out Lauderdale and use the mooring field at Dinner Key.

We use the DK mooring field often when in the Miami area. Even though it is about $75 more a month than our slip in our home marina!

I was in CT a few years ago, anchored out but was meeting crew and stocking up for the trip south so thought I would get a slip for a day or two. The best I could find was $3.00/ft so $126/night plus taxes.

I pointed out to the owner that I could rent a room at the local hotel with AC, HBO and a kitchen for $45/night less than paying him for the use of a couple of cleats and his dock. Also mentioned that his marina was 2/3 empty and offered him $80/night which he refused. So I stayed anchored out.

Related to this discussion, I had to pick up a crewmember at the fuel dock at South Beach Marina a few years ago, so I swung in the transom and he stepped aboard. No lines were passed, no contact was made. A guy on the gas dock came out and said "private dock; you owe me $1 per foot for the use of my dock". Or words to that effect.

OMG. $46 to pick up a passenger.

I have a Ft Lauderdale fuel dock story.

Sailing into Ft.Lauderdale at 3am after racing from St. Pete our engine would not start and we managed to sail to the Pier 66 fuel dock , arriving at 4am. As soon as marina staff arrived at 7am I was waiting for them at the office to explain why I was docked and ask for a mechanic recommendation. Pier 66 said I was fine where I was at the far end of the fuel dock. I called Cable Marine at 8am when they opened and they had a mechanic at my boat by 9:30am . At 10:30am they towed me to their shop.

I went to the marina office to see what I owed them for 6.5 hours on their fuel dock and they presented me a bill for 2 Days dockage (February rates) since checkout time was 10 and it was now 10:30 I owed the second day. When I politely told them I did not think they were being fair with the charge their exact response was "PAY THE BILL OR WE WILL CALL THE SHERIFF"

All righty then - I just crossed FL off the list. I mean, I could stay at Harborview Marina in Marshtown, Abaco for less than $300 a week right now, and that's a nice marina with very nice staff. Crazy.

Sorry but my response to the ft lauderdale fuel dock would have been the 4 letter word that comes before you and is not "love" that is just ridiculous

In response to a recent inquiry pertaining to dockage availability, I was told by Miami marina officials that due to damage from recent hurricane(s), there are no slips available for transients or long term and that I should look in Ft Lauderdale. That being said, we were in KWST over the holidays and there were plenty of docks available.
