Re: Cost of Liveaboard in Australia

I've had a couple of stays at the Newcastle Marina ...at great expense. I'll consider round the corner in the Hunter next time for sure, looks good!

Cairns must have the most expensive marina fees in the country!

I dunno.... was just talking to an acquaintance with a Tayana 55 who was paying 1600$ a month plus liveaboard fees at Marina Mirage in Southport Qld.

Ouch!

Re: Cost of Liveaboard in Australia

Australia is VERY expensive. To give you an idea the £ is currently worth $1.62 Australian dollars. We refitted in Australia and it cost us $23,000 to re-rig the boat $14,500 for six new acrylic windows $3,000 to have the boat antifouled, a new rudder is a standard $5,000, new daggerboard the same. Food is eye wateringly expensive and poor quality to boot indeed you are better off with frozen veg than fresh ??? Fuel is cheaper than the U.K. Able Point Marina at Airlie Beach $100+ per night but you can anchor for free just outside. In my experience marinas for a 48ft boat vary between $65 and $135 per night. The traders all seem to work for at least $100 per hour as in the U.K. some are good some are not.
Make no mistake Australia is VERY expensive and yacht in transit does not entitle you to tax free imports unless you are leaving Australia within 60 days and then you can claim it back. It will also cost you around $400 when you enter. Most people now who sail the Pacific go to NZ which is much cheaper.

Re: Cost of Liveaboard in Australia

Boat cost alone &160-180 P/W + personal expenses on top. There are a lot of places to see where you can anchor out!!
