Re: Compost Toilet Gnats Removal

Canadian here and I've never heard fanny equated to vagina. Fanny is a butt in my lingo.

Bugs happened to us once too, Air Head. Raid took care of it.

More of that regional stuff:
In the US, you might get arrested for simply saying "Spanking my daughter's" regardless of what followed that phrase. At that point, someone calls an agency with (varying by state) a name like Child Protective Services and they show up at your door, with every intent of taking your daughter into custody if there's a mark on her.
FWIW.

Toilet humour. OMG, here we go again. It's humour, not humor. Colour, not color flavour not flavor etc. Are these terms applicable here? Let's get to the bottom of all this!

Actually that is very literally true in some other highly developed countries.

But mostly not in the U.S., in fact out of all the wealthiest countries one of the least likely.

OT I know.

Re: Compost Toilet Gnats Removal

I learned that I can now refer to my vagina as a fanny. Far out.

To go further off subject and without due regard to the LGBTI brigade.

Australian men don't have fannies, wear thongs on their feet, used to buy Durex as sticky tape and keep their cans of beer in an Esky which they loaded into their tinnies ( Alumini(u)m) dinghies. The Kiwis are much the same but prefer Jandals on their feet and keep their half G's of beer in chilly bins.

Will do the job, you can buy it as mosquito dunks, mix some with some water and pour over, the bacteria infects the larvae and explodes their guts, germ warfare at its best, all 100% natural.

Re: Compost Toilet Gnats Removal

4 years with a C Head. Full time livaboard.
There is a between the different units on the market that I really appreciate.

For the few times that gnats have appeared, it is only temporary. No replacing the whole batch has ever been required. In fact, I treat my unit like a cat box, without the smell that cat urine contributes. Basically means that I only top up the drying media.

Gnat appearance seems to follow more than usual moisture in the solids.

My unit is unvented. If I ever do hook up the tiny muffin fan I bought for it, it will only be for better air circulation. No smell means no smell. No deck penetration will be a part of my system.

Good to know that using the word fanny can be more troublesome than gnats though.

Re: Compost Toilet Gnats Removal

Maybe this meaning came from Fanny Durack?

From a great series on historically bad-ass women of Australia (NSFW language warning)

Had a British girlfriend that explained that fanny in England meant the front vs rear. Aka, vagina. I said, well heck, ain't that special.

Re: Compost Toilet Gnats Removal

Here, I use fly strips to control gnats and flies. They work well when the boat is moored.

When the boat is sailing, as you'd expect, conventional fly strips flop all over the place and stick to everything. Then I use window fly traps, which are the same thing in a configuration to stick onto a portlight. Very effective and convenient.....
