Cockpit Grass

Recent addition... It makes the cockpit a much more enjoyable place to be. Not only the visual distinction and differentiation of color but the texture and feel is lovely... It’s far from real grass but has the same sensational comfort as the real thing. I’m surprise at how far they’ve come with artificial turf.

It’s not permanently installed and has to be rolled up on sailing days when the tilt causes it to slide under foot. I’ll look into those things put under rugs at some point to hold it in place better.

Re: Cockpit Grass

If you really like grass THAT much, maybe you should take up golf instead of sailing...

Why on earth would ANYBODY want carpet much less eff'n grass in their cockpit? WTF?? Mold? Mildew? Sand? Dirt????

These are the kind of boats that collect in the kind of marinas I stay FAR away from.

I'm not quite as negative as this post, but I must admit to not getting the point of this effort. I have to agree that it will inevitably collect stuff that you don't want in your cockpit, and honestly, I think it looks awful, but then it isn't my boat!

I will be kinda surprised if it is still there a year from now.

Well for me sailing is about 80% of the time relaxing with the boat at anchor. Its more comfortable than the dull surface.

It’s artificial grass... so not really different than the plastic surface it sits on.

I know the boats you’re thinking of, but I don’t plan to be settled at a marina anytime soon.

Yeah, it will eventually wear different down and become less comfortable (possibly filthy), but for now while coastal cruising it’s quite cozy when anchored. I’ll be sure to check in a year from now

I was thinking the same thing. I think my dog may like it enough to actually use it when getting shoreside is too difficult or inconvenient.

Re: Cockpit Grass

I think it looks pretty cool. Keeps the little screws from what you’re working on from bouncing away and rolling down the drain, protects your hot feet, easily rinses out, it’s cheap, water runs right through it, makes a fun mat to wipe off your feet, it’ll keep stuff from rolling around.
I probably wouldn’t fit it to the whole cockpit but a mat under the wheel and the entrance to the cockpit would be nice. You could move ‘em around the boat as you worked on stuff to hold small parts, tools and protect knees.
