Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
I'm trying to clean up the interior of our "new to us" Fountaine Pajot Tobago 35. The entire interior is covered in what looks like a beige outdoor carpet kind of fabric. There are some dark spots that appear to be mold. Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove the spots? I can't scrub on it very hard because it will damage the fabric.

Re: Cleaning interior wall "fabric"
Get a small Bissell carpet cleaner.

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
Does that Bissel spot cleaner use a rotating brush? If so, it would damage the fabric. If I scrub on it much at all, it pulls the fiber up and leaves a "fuzz".

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
Here is the one we have and it works great for us: http://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-SpotCl.../dp/B00AZBIRDQ
It does not have a rotating brush, but does have bristles on the wand end. You don't have to use them, though. If it gets fuzzy, it can be shaved with hair clippers.
This shoots hot water (containing anything of your choice) into the carpet while simultaneously sucking it back out again. It is a pretty deep cleaning. Many synthetic carpets have no problem with bleach. If yours is similar (test somewhere first), the bleach kills mold very well.

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
Just be very careful of using bleach as the fabric contains wool. We had the same type of fabric in our Athena 38. deep cleaning with steam migth be possible but could be risky unless sucked right back again.
Vinegar is also a very good clening agent and kills germs and mould efficiently and wold my preferred fist choice. Otherwise do a google search an wool cleaning.
Good luck with your cleaning procedure. And if you find one that really works let us all know.

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
Boat liner fabric with wool in it? Are you sure?
I would try some carpet cleaning spray or solution first. But those dark mildew stains probably aren't going to come off.

Sugar soap, follow directions on container, purchased here in Australia at paint and hardware stores, use car wash sponge to apply and then dry out with old towels, simple and cheap.

For smaller areas with stains/spots, Folex carpet cleaner spray works wonders.

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
Sugar soap was a new one for me, so I looked it up. It is trisodiumphosphate (TSP) that is commonly found in paint and hardware stores like in Australia.
The term sugar soap seems to be unique to the commonwealth countries.

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
There are some brand name "foaming carpet cleaners" in the US that spray on, foam up like shaving cream, and then you towel them off. Might give one of them a try, they're usually pretty good.

Try some woolite on a sponge using a dabbing technique instead of rubbing.

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
Just curious, has anyone ever tried to remote the carpet on their Tobago or Athena? If so what is the process and would recommend removing the carpet like fabric?
Thanks!!

Re: Cleaning Interior Wall "Fabric"
We had some areas where the fabric had come loose from the walls. I used contact cement to successfully re-adhere it. I can't imagine that the result of removing all the fabric would be pleasing. The fiberglass under that fabric is extremely rough. Plus you'd have all the leftover glue to deal with.
To clean mine and "freshen" it - I used a combination of elbow grease, degreaser spray (for greasy stains), bleach (for mold) - it worked well and did not discolor the fabric, a shop vac, plenty of water to rinse.
The real magic happened when I bought a cheap barber's clipper - and "clipped" all the fuzz balls from the walls. This took a good bit of time but really made the difference!
