Christmas Trees Aboard?

I thought I'd share these with cruiser that may already seen these and one's who have not.

1) The Capitol Christmas tree in Washington, D.C., is decorated with 3,000 ornaments that are the handiwork of U.S. schoolchildren. Encircling
evergreens in the 'Pathway of Peace' represent the 50 U.S. states.

2) The world's largest Christmas tree display rises up the slopes
of Monte Ingino outside of Gubbio, in Italy's Umbria region.
Composed of about 500 lights connected by 40,000 feet of wire,
the 'tree' is a modern marvel for an ancient city


3) A Christmas tree befitting Tokyo's nighttime neon display is
projected onto the exterior of the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka.

4) Illuminating the Gothic facades of Prague's Old Town Square,
and casting its glow over the manger display of the famous
Christmas market, is a grand tree cut in the Sumava mountains
in the southern Czech Republic.

5) Venice 's Murano Island renowned throughout the world
for its quality glasswork is home to the tallest glass tree
in the world. Sculpted by master glass blower Simone
Cenedese, the artistic Christmas tree is a modern
reflection of the holiday season.

6) Moscow celebrates Christmas according to the Russian Orthodox
calendar on Jan. 7. For weeks beforehand, the city is alive with
festivities in anticipation of Father Frost's arrival on his magical
troika with the Snow Maiden.
He and his helper deliver gifts under
the New Year tree, or yolka, which is traditionally a fir.

7) The largest Christmas tree in Europe (more than 230 feet tall)
can be found in the Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, Portugal.
Thousands of lights adorn the tree, adding to the special
enchantment of the city during the holiday season.

a Christmas tree is a wondrous sight.

10) In addition to the Vatican's heavenly evergreen, St. Peter's Square

11) The Christmas tree that greets revelers at the Puerta del Sol
is dressed for a party. Madrid's two-week celebration makes
millionaires along with merrymakers. On Dec. 22, a lucky citizen
will win El Gordo (the fat one), the world's biggest lottery.

12) A token of gratitude for Britain's aid during World War II,
the Christmas tree in London's Trafalgar Square has been
the annual gift of the people of Norway since 1947.

I am a atheist. But I beleve that Christmas is about giving. Its a time when the young expirence a type of magic. and the rest of us try to recapture that magic.
If you want to say its about christ.. go ahead. But there are many in this world that celebrate the seaon of giving, that do not pretend its about that.

Its about giving. To your children, to each other, to your self, to your neighbor, to the crossing guard, and the teacher, the nurse and the doctor, the mail carrier and the local butcher.. what ever. Its a time to acknowledge that we all need each other, and that while there will be many times when we don't remember that, this one time we do.
So give away. And put up a tree. Decorate it with lights and balls and stuff. Put presents under, and invite your family, your friends and the neighbors to come over for some cheer. and remember that only this day will every one pretend that they all like you....

Or not.
I have to work christmas eve and christmas day... Saving lives. But I still love christmas.

If you've ever seen a Christmas tree go up in flames you would never bring anything even remotely resembling one aboard a boat that you cared anything whatsoever about. Boats are already a fire hazard. Why bring a fire hazard aboard a fire hazard unless you're just asking for trouble?

We made a "driftwood tree" out of different sized pieces of driftwood, drilled through the middle and stacked onto an aluminum rod.

I made a paper envelope style advent calendar like this:

Easy DIY advent calendar: 25 small folded paper envelopes >> a peek inside the fishbowl

And then I wrapped ribbon around the grab rail over the salon table and paper clipped the envelopes to that. We also have a string of LED multicolored lights above the table because we are at a dock right now.

Very cool!...would be a fun thing for kids aboard too... make it natucal as well...1) Row the dingy to the nerboring anchord boat and knock on their hull...Merry Christmas as they give a small homemade gift...2) Offer as a family a couple hours work to someone in need....etc..etc..

We have a wee little advent mailbox counting down to all of the holidays we celebrate aboard -- Hanukkah, Solstice, and Christmas. A little Tomten mans the mailbox and puts in a note each day with something fun to do.

I the "REPLY" page, scroll down below to the "Attach File" and click on "Manage Attachments", select and up load the pictures off your decktop, close the attachments window and Submit Reply when your done with the message window. The pictures will show up below the message.
