Cheapest country for a live aboard?

In January, Property Guides, a website dedicated to helping people purchase property abroad, released its “Cost of Living Overseas Index”*, which, as the name implies, analyzed the cost of living across 13 [developed] countries, compared to the United Kingdom.
After looking at the data, Property Guides named Spain the top spot, for those looking to live on less.

The Cost of Living Overseas Index looks at prices across 13 countries, and compares UK prices with those in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Germany, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The team named Italy as the second cheapest place to live, in terms of cost of living, followed by Portugal, Greece, and Germany, rounding out the top 5.
Property Guides compiled the data in December 2023.

The problem with Spain is the illegal house builds that foreigners buy only to lose them down the line, also the complicated legalities and tax system.
Sure it's cheap in terms of the shopping basket but a search on line soon shows the negatives and graft is common.
