Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

It seems I may get a good job down town, but I live in Northern Virginia and the commute will be deadly. If I could keep my boat up there and spend 2-3 nights a week up there, that would take the sting out of it. I'm not able to relocate at this time.

I don't need a true live aboard marina, I don't think, and I'm more interested in cheap than yacht club, since my family will not be with me.

20 minutes would be fine, preferably on the south side. It's a cat, with 16' beam, but shallow draft.

Re: Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

We keep ours at an apartment complex in Annapolis. One of the cheapest we could find and an easy drive to Charm City.

PM me if you'd like more info.

Cheers

Re: Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

There was a recent thread where people were recommending Anchorage marina. Something like $500 a quarter, I think.

I own a slip and have a 35' sailboat at Anchorage Marina. They have slips for sale and rental. It's located between Fells Point and Canton, great spot. I stay on the boat all the time.

The problem I often run into is my 16-foot beam. Draft is shallow, but unless I find the roght situation, I end up looking at 45+ slips and 450/mo, which is silly. I pay 120/mo all inclusive in Deal, MD.

Nap Town doesn't help, since it is no closer in time than NOVA.

I guess I need a power boat/work boat marina with wide, shallow slips.

Check out the Maryland Yacht Club in Pasadena. Nice place and reasonable slip fees.

Re: Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

I looked at a boat at this marina:

Old Bay Marina

The place had a reputation for being inexpensive and wasn't terribly shabby.

Quite a deal in deale! $120/mo that's in a marina?

Around here I know a guy that cleans the bathrooms every morning at a marina and still pays more than that per month!

Re: Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

I live in Northern VA too with my boat in Deale, so I understand the pain. I've had to go up to Baltimore a few times for work, and the commute is horrible... a full tank of gas gone in 3 days, gets expensive very quickly.

Hopefully you'll find something that will work out for you.

Deal has some dirt cheap marinas, like Rockhold Creek. Even Herrington Harbor North, which is one of the nicest marinas on the Bay is a bargain compared to any place farther north.

Rhapsody, Baltimore has enormous expanses of industrial waterfront. You might be able to finagle a spot, but you'll also be in the wastelands of Baltimore. Fells Point/Canton might seem expensive, but it's right smack in a great part of town and the quality of life would be great. You'd be close to Bertha's Mussels...that's worth the slip cost alone, lol.

Re: Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

Wow, I was hoping to find someplace Nice, Cheap myself.
And you want a wide slip!
I'm in the area, from the area.
Please post where you end up.
I'm paying 1300 a year at a very small marina with only incidental power, and no shower. 39'7'' overall, but relatively narrow. I have found bargain prices on narrow slips and premium prices on beamy slips.

You might find a T-Head at Middle River landing, 410-686-0771. I am not there, but I have been, and can recommend it I have also been at 4 marinas in Baltimore City. Its a bit too dirty for me.

Re: Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

I would call Oak Harbor Marina at 410-255-4070 and talk with Ken or Barb the owners. They are in Pasadena, MD a short drive to downtown. They might have a problem with your beam but worth a call.

Good Luck

Re: Cheap Marina in the Baltimore, MD Area

stayed at the Anchorage marina, fairly inexpensive and with the new management it should be good, it's walking distance to all in Baltimore. Middle River also has a few inexpensive marinas
