Catalina or Endeavour

First liveaboard purchase:

There's a Catalina 34, 1992 model that's firm on his $39,000 price. Has a nice dinghy and outboard included. Well taken care of and sailed often.

I'm also looking at a 1979 37.5 Endeavour that was a liveaboard and is well stocked for doing so. Priced below $35,000.

Do you think the Endeavour would be too much boat for my first big boat? I'll be singlehanding a lot and possibly begin offering daysails out of our local harbor upon obtaining my "Six Pack" license and having the boat USCG inspected.

Thanks!

Re: Catalina or Endeavour

First, in my opinion and experience, the difference in singlehanding a 34 vs a 37.5 is negligible. More important for singlehanding is how the boat, lines, winches, etc are set up.

Regarding the boat, the Cat is a lot newer boat but at the end of the day, for any boat more than a few years old I would look at the condition, especially anything that would be big ticket to repair like engine, wet core in the deck, old vs new sails.

Re: Catalina or Endeavour

34 vs 37, that's just a size rounding error difference. Far as single handling it's more about how each is setup.

but those two boat are a lot different from each other and the 34' catalina may be "bigger" far as living goes.
