I would think any country would have a problem if the name on the boat
and the paperwork isn't the same. Presume you have a a TIP for Mexico
. The name on that needs to match that on the boat documentation
too. I have no idea on what is involved in changing the name on a TIP. Maybe cancel one and get a new one in new name? Sounds like you would need to get a knowledable agent to help you through the Mexican process. In the US the boat documentation
number does not change so at least the HIN and the doucmentation number would be the same on the old and new CG document, just the name would be different. Might be able to convince locals that all is OK.
I have had various officials check to see that the name on the Zarpe from one country matches the name of the boat I was bringing into their country, and some do come to the boat physically, including Mexico
when checking out of the country in Chiapas.
Like most things in Mexico, the rules are interperted differently from port to port. Might be as simple as asking a port captain
and see if it is OK with them to change the name while in port.
