Bimini design

One of the modifications we will need to make our boat suitable for bluewater cruising is to add a bimini. I know what the usual sort of design entails, but I am considering incorporating solar panels into my design. This would obviously make it harder to remove the bimini. But other than for long term layup, or for severe weather events, do people ever actually fold their biminis away anyway?

On a related note, how much should I worry about adding weight to the bimini? The ideas I am sketching at the moment could have 60-100kg of solar panels and supporting metalwork in them, which sounds like quite a lot when you consider it is fairly high up.
