Re: Best entertainment system for yacht cruises? What are your stories and experience
Key West to Block Island so far, but Covid has put a dent in our ability and desire to explore ashore. Spent last winter in the Exumas but it was very windy and not that pleasant for exploring. We wanted to spend spring and early summer in the Bahamas this year, but it looks like that’s not going to happen due to Covid.

Izon, I'm not even looking for a definitive answer to my question. :-) I just wanted to hear about your experiences and stories - I really enjoy reading all your posts! :-) If I can't make it on a super yacht, then I'll just dream about it tonight And it's clear that the entertaining system also depends on the size of the yacht. However, on a boat you certainly have design and plan more than in a house (where you would have much more space available…)
Cheers!

Also "smaller" yachts are fun and can have a lot of luxury too. Of course, the big superyachts are in a league of their own and can have literally everything on it. From swimming pools, to spas and even a casino can be on a superyacht. Just some days ago I have seen a youtube video about this huge yachts and there was even a big foldable TV (c-seed) on the boat which pops out of the ground. If one wants to have more space, than this systems are surely a big advantage.

Woodland Hills, oh so nice!! I’ve just watched some pics on Google and those places are amazing! It looks really beautiful over there. And yes, unfortunately Covid has put a spoke in everybody’s wheel, I think…But Bahamas must be fun too! I keep my fingers crossed!!
Izon, true, luxury can be found anywhere…but a Casino on his own yacht? Not sure if one might need that hahah however that foldable TV sounds interesting. How does that work? Is the image projected onto a screen which can then be folded?

Re: Best entertainment system for yacht cruises? What are your stories and experience
We stopped watching TV a decade ago as most of sucked, and the flat screen was only used for the occasional movie on Netflix. We eventually quit watching entirely a few years before we bought our boat and gave the TV away.
Now that we cruise full time I wouldn't think of having a boob toob on our boat. We watch the occasional movie in the V-berth on the Kindle Fire hung on the slats by its cover/case or on the Macbook.
We have the basic Fusion marine radio with NMEA-2K connection so it can be controlled from the cockpit via the chartplotter or in the nav station where the radio is mounted below the VHF and SSB. It' has a zone for the cockpit with a pair of <$100 marine speakers and another zone in the main saloon with ancient Realistic car audio speakers that are from the age when Radio Shack still sold high-end audio under their own name.
The Fusion has a line-in, USB media jack, and bluetooth connections. Using bluetooth we mostly stream music and audiobooks directly from our phones and often the audio from the Kindle Fire, MacBook, or our phones when watching video.
The basic marine speakers in the cockpit sound wonderful at levels that are not disturbing the neighborhood -many others share our anchorages and often there are homes just on shore too, who's occupants don't necessarily enjoy our tastes in music or authors. Don't be THAT guy being a jagoof on the water.
If we crave more entertainment than the above we can always raise the anchor and go for an enjoyable sail. Isn't that why we own boats in the first place? Or is to hide in the AC and play Call of Duty all day and all night on a 78" big screen?

Why leave home if you just want to watch TV?

My boat is my home, we live here 24/7/365. What do you expect me to do after dark on a winter night anchored out? It’s going to start getting dark at 6:00pm soon, besides, what’s wrong with TV, or cinema? We read for an hour or two in bed, but there are a lot of hours of darkness in January and February.......
As to what content we watch, it’s mostly UK TV, mysteries, crime shows and other content. These days we really like Silent Witness, Touch of Frost, Of course Midsomer Murders, This Farming Life, Britannia, the Goes Wrong Show, Mrs Brown, Benidorm, Morse, Endeavor and Inspector Lewis, van der Valk. Lots more, too. No US network Tv though,. Some Italian: Montalbano and Barlume are fun. Lots more out there to stream on Prime. We subscribe to BritBox, Acorn, MHz Choice, PBS Masterpiece and PBS Passport through Prime. We also have an ancient KVH dish that only gets satellite 129, so we just get US cable TV with no local stations.

We had a piano on the yacht I ran.
The billionaire-owner was an avid player and used to play in the evenings after dinner.

Re: Best entertainment system for yacht cruises? What are your stories and experience
So let's move this to a real question. We have a 43-ft sailboat, and really do enjoy the outdoors and the peace and quiet and all that. But as Woodland Hills said, it's not an either or question. We intend to be places where there is very limited connection of any sort, no radio, no TV, and no internet. We would like to have on occasion some entertainment. This would be music, prerecorded video, etc. Nothing fancy, and the TV would certainly not be very large - maybe 32-in tops.
Anybody have thoughts on how to integrate all this? We have a decent stereo that will read USB and Bluetooth. We have no display of any sort.
We're thinking something like a large hard drive, maybe a terabyte, perhaps an SSD. Some sort of management tool(maybe somehow drive it from a smartphone?) for audio.
We are struggling with the TV. We really don't want it in the main saloon when not in use - which leads to storage challenges!
We certainly don't want a massive, expensive, and intrusive hyper entertainment system. But we also do not want to go to a world where we cannot watch a movie or play some music.
What works for people?

Re: Best entertainment system for yacht cruises? What are your stories and experience
When we don’t have connectivity we stream downloaded shows from our phones and pads. We use a Lightning to HDMI adaptor with a charging port to keep the phone from using up its battery. Since we have Apple devices we have to pay Apple for the adapter: they are very proud of it!

Re: Best entertainment system for yacht cruises? What are your stories and experience
Fusion systems for boats are certainly the best. They have really good marine speakers. Bluetooth integration multiple inputs for Tv video etc
I have 24 inch Hd Tv , surround sound that pumps when I want it to integrated with a mini HP pc running windows 10 and a SSD , with a monument storage system and onboard router sharing everything.
About 1500 music videos that never bore me. The iPod etc all integrated .
Love it
