Explain. Barnacle Buster contains phosphate (IIRC), but HCl contains only chloride.


They different in corrosiveness to metals. HCl will be more damaging. HCl requires more care to handle, and I would definitely prefer to use BB. But HCl is quite non-toxic, since it leaves only salt after it reacts with lime (In fact, in solution, it exists neither as HCl or NaCl, only as ions). Stomach acid is primarily HCl.

Just add some copper sulphate. Its very toxic to marine molluscs and marine invertebrates generally and will keep the system clean.

We added coils of copper wire, call it our IUDs. That helps keep growth down.
