ATF stank...

Well getting the cutter ready for the trip south, changed the oil in the Yanmar 15hp with some rotilla 15w40, split the old filter, no metal.

Decided to check the transmission, drained and filled to spec with mobile 1 syn ATF, didn’t have a proper funnel and spilled a little, for the love of sulfur!

What’s the best way to get the smell out?

I’ve never noticed Mobil 1 ATF had a smell.
The purple stuff will eat the paint on the engine and Simple Green will too.
Dawn dish liquid really does work on oil spills, and to me Pine Sol has a pleasing smell, and it emulsifies oil too, about like Dawn.

Re: ATF stank...

First--and VERY important!)--thoroughly clean the spill area with detergent and water (Ultra Dawn is a good choice)...when it's at least 90% dry, spray every inch, nook and cranny of the site with a product called PureAyre PureAyre (the only product I've ever found that'll eliminate ANY odor--sewage, oil, smoke, spoiled fish or meat (it's rated for use around food)--when used as directed. If this is your only odor problem, you only need a spray bottle which you can find at pet supply stores, Walmart and Amazon.

Re: ATF stank...

Thanks guys!

Think I’ll try pine sol, I like the smell more than damn, despite their work in oil spills, and also get some of that spray Peggy recommended (though that might be a amazon order type thing).

As for purple power, that stuff works, but also is corrosive, in my day job we get lots of exhaust soot on aircraft, especially turbine, and some folks use that, it takes the black streak off mightily quick, but will also get into the rivet lines and the like and fester, no bueno.
