Re: AT SEA, What do you want from your Woman or Man?

What do I want at sea for a woman or a man

1. Experienced sailor that knows seamanship, and navigation
2. Good head on their shoulders, situational awareness , and is responsible
3. Calm and cool and can handle situations that arise and can be counted on
4. Stand their, watch, and follow the orders of the skipper. Trustworthy.
5. Be part of the team, and give 110% to the vessel and people on board.
6. Love sailing, and have fun, and be thoughtful of others
7. No drugs, freaking period !
8. No alcoholics !
9. Prepare to party when the anchor is down, on a mooring, or ashore
10. Communicate with the skipper, if you have a good idea, express it.
11. Have a special female mate, who you happily can share all aspects of life with.

And, I have all the above in Erica. Note : She is mine, you go get your own !

Re: AT SEA, What do you want from your Woman or Man?

After 33 years of marriage we spent a year in US Bahamas and Med. Best year yet.

When you are on land there are lots of distractions, which can be good or bad depending on the tenor of your basic connection.

On the boat, you had better like each other. I suspect you could love all sorts of people (love is probably as much about your character as theirs), but someone you really, really like and enjoy? That's a gift. And to me, enjoying her full time is the single best part of sailing.

Hope I dont shock you but I go solo. Two things that annoy me are women and cars.

So there you go, from someone that prefers the Hermit life by choice.

Re: AT SEA, What do you want from your Woman or Man?

I couldn't possibly make a list. I try to keep to two simple 'guidelines'

Am I happier With that person or Without them?

Is my life easier With that person, or Without them?

Only you can determine what are the appropriate actions to take based on the answers and your situation.

I always wonder why loners have that need to defend their choice....totally unnecessary!

Re: AT SEA, What do you want from your Woman or Man?

I agree with Ironman162. I like quiet. I have a dog. Better companion and always happy. Wags her tail when she sees me, every time. Never known a woman to do that beyond the early stage of trying to trap me. Women are never happy for any length of time. There's always a new problem. If not, they stick their nose in other peoples problems until it blows up and somehow I have to get involved.

Why do loners have to defend their choice? We aren't defending. We're like people that find religion. Happy, a song in our heart. We want you to know once a man quits trying to make a chronically unhappy woman happy it's liberating. The quiet and calmness that overcomes the boat is amazing. Now there's closet space to spare. You get to be a man again. No more feminization, and pee standing up, not that I ever sat.

Re: AT SEA, What do you want from your Woman or Man?

It's good to have someone who has your back and is sensitive to needing and providing personal space and quiet (which can be challenging on a boat). We can't be experts in everything, so complimentary skill sets are a plus.

Someone that wants to be there, not doing it for you, that dosent last.
Oh, and passes you chocolate through the closed companion way on a dark stormy night when your soaking wet and tired.

Re: AT SEA, What do you want from your Woman or Man?

Being beginners at sailing at this point, I can't really answer the OP question directly, but these are some things I like about my "Admiral".
Seeing the excitement and love of animals on her face when the dolphins come to greet us.
Her happy shouts from below, "how far are we heeled?"

Willing to learn from my limited sailing knowledge, and being a partner in all ways.

I feel like I should point out that she wants me to learn to sail, and teach her as I can.

Hmm, sounds like every bloke who aspired to lead an HOA or condo association.
