Anyone Around Hampton Roads, VA ?

My wife and i are looking to move to a live aboard within the next 5 years. My wife has not been out to sea and we where wondering if someone could share there experiences with us? I spent 7 years in the navy and i loved traveling port to port and exploring the unknown lands. Please let us know the ins and outs of a liveaboard.

If you want it to be a pleasant experience, your wife must be comfortable aboard. There's a big difference in cruising with the Navy and cruising on your own. We owned a 37 ft sailboat for years and my wife always felt that she was living in a hole. The solution for us was a trawler. Now she has most of the comforts of home. My wife is also knowledgeable enough to handle the boat. It has to be a team effort to work.

Not sure how this fits with your question about Hampton Roads. I am from the area though.

Re: Anyone Around Hampton Roads, VA ?

I will be buying a boat between now and January, likely in Texas. I will then complete the courses I need (for the paper) to get my 6-pack. I will also be refiting the boat. I expect to leave Texas about half past April, pick up my 1st mate in Mobile, and be in the Salt Ponds for the summer about June. Watch this space, I'll let you know when I get there, I'll buy y'all a cuppa and tell you and your wife all about it.
