A sailing base

I'm going to open the floodgates with this one... but i'm just trying to think outside the box a little.

Liveaboard life is fun but i have found that i really need a base or a home to go to for 5 or 6 months out of the year. Take a boat break and have a bed that does not move. As such, I have started to think about places i could find a home, close to the water, close to some good sailing that wont break the bank.

I open for any ideas. I love Portugal but i find the sailing there only so so, and not a ton of places to go out and anchor. US could be an option, maybe on the east coast in a smaller town but I just dont have the experience or knowledge.

Central America? Somewhere in the Caribbean (i guess we have to forget about the hurricane).

essentially, need an airport, need WIFI to work and need to home to live in (having the water close and awesome sailing would be a bonus).

Anyone have some cool towns, cities, locations that jump to mind?

Cheers

pirate Re: A sailing base

Sounds like your looking for somewhere with good local sailing not for cruising 6 to 7 months of the year then winter ashore.
The Algarve is great for the latter, base in Faro/Olhau..
April head East along the Spanish coast to Gib then into the Med.. 6 days to the Balearics or 4+ weeks, its your choice.. from there you have NE Spain, S France, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta or Italy.
Come September run West back to base and spend October to April in your stable bed with occasional sailing E or W..
Anchorages from Sagres to Cadiz including Faro/Olhau lagoon.
