Re: Snowbirds

Here's my last view of our most recent stay at a Vero Beach mooring. We always find a place available,- sometimes alone...

...sometimes with another boat, and often with another boat without owners present.

We like Vero Beach, but not for more than a few days or a week at most. Any longer and it's too much like an adult day care community! 'lot's of good people, but who wants to spend their time among a nest of cruisers?

Re: Snowbirds

My wife has knee trouble and dislikes getting in and out of the dinghy. We find it much more convenient to be in a slip if we will be visiting a town as we can easily come and go.

Our plan is for just a few days at each town along the Florida ICW.

You should not have a problem. Most stops on the ICW in FL (other than secluded anchorages) have more than one marina. Fernandina Beach Marina is out of service but there are a couple of other marinas nearby on Amelia Island.

St. Augustine, Daytona, Palm Coast, Titusville, all have a couple of marinas and once you get into the Indian River there's marinas in all the little towns.

And then you get to Lake Worth and south. Lots of marinas.

With a trawler and its relatively shallow draft you'll have quite a choice as far as slips go.

Thanks.

The purpose of the trip will be sightseeing and visiting the towns you mentioned and others so i's not just finding a slip it's finding a slip in the right part of town.

We have an obligation at Easter time so I suppose we'll just leave Charleston right after that and see how things go.

Yep, that's what I do if I need a slip.

That's what I do as well but sometimes they are full. It happened to me a couple times on my last cruise.
