Sailing Southern California to Florida

I am wondering why nobody has mentioned going from Panama to stay a summer out of the hurricane belt in Belize? There is lots of shallow water there but it seems like it could be a good cruising area. I was thinking of leaving San Francisco this fall, running rather quickly down Mexico as we have done that area twice already, and doing the Canal in maybe February, then either keep the boat in Panama East Coast or move north to Belize to leave the boat there beginning in April. I think this is a more realistic trip, time-wise, that what the OP proposed.

If I just wanted to base the boat in Florida and skip CR, Panama, and Belize, I would truck it.

Belize is NOT the place to be during a hurricane. There are a few anchorages where you might survive but there is no good reason to hang around Belize as the Rio Dulce is only 2 days away and completely safe from Hurricanes.
