Plotting Your Route Online

I'm trying to find the best way to plot out my sailing route using an online map/website that I can edit, save, and show/share with other people.

I tried using Google Earth but had a lot of trouble editing or saving it. Any tips?

Does anyone have any good suggestions or websites to use?

Thank you so much!

Sorry, don't know of a website that allows what you are after. Have you googled free nav programs. I use GPSNavX at home for planning and follow up with it on the boat. Some of the other guys on this board will offer a better solution/suggestions.

Are you wanting to plot your planned route or actual positions as you cruise?

Ideally I'd like to do both, but for the moment just plot my planned route.

These guys have developed a system for route plotting and photoblogging that may be just the ticket for you

Google Maps using My Maps has a distance measuring tool which can be nautical miles and covers the world - any good?

To plot your planned route use your nav software, then do a screen capture <alt><pint screen> then copy into your favorite graphics software. Edit as you like.

For plotting actual course, look at "Ship track" as used by HAMS. You email your position each time you want to report and they plot it.

Or we could do something like our position reporting at Sunspot Baby Position Reports - Home.

SPOT is a service that can record your position every time you push the button on the hand held GPIRB like devise. There is a fee but the unit can call for help too.
Family and friends can log on and see your track.
