Here in the Miami Marine Stadium, the locals are beaching their dinghies at 25-44.650 080-10.275. I have not been ashore here. (We are being especially good at social distancing, We'd hate to be ill on an offshore passage.) I have seen others leave the dinghy area by bicycle and by Vespa scooter. Cars are parked nearby.

See post 6. We like Miami Beach as trash, food, water, and fuel are all within 0 to 100 yds of a dinghy dock. Now, it is illegal to tie up in Miami Beach except for 20 min at the Marine Patrol (Police Dock), but we have, like the locals, been taking our chances. Then, our mast is 46', yours 67', and you would have to pass under the Dodge Island and MacAuthur Causeway bridges.

Thank you for useful update! It seems that things are going on better in USVI. Marinas still open, you can go ashore (though not recommended), there is still all well with fuel and groceries, dinghy docks open... And there’s not so many covid-19 cases.
Though no one know what to expect further, maybe in a couple days situation will change.
As we suppose, we need to leave in the end of April - beginning of May.
Hopefully, things will change for better!

Re: Plans messed up, advice needed!

I guess you don't want to go farther south. That would avoid hurricanes.

I keep my boat in Merritt Island, FL at Harbortown marina. It's well protected. If you want to only anchor, the barge canal from Port Canaveral to the ICWW is good place to tie to mangroves. Car rentals to S FL are easy.

There's one bridge that opens for access to the canal. Check to be sure the lock construction is done (supposed to be end April). There's another bridge that opens to access the ICWW.

You can still take a shot to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral to abandoned Walkers Cay - 120 miles.

I hear your insurance issue. I don't get the 35N thing. S Carolina is like FL for hurricanes. Maybe look at changing brokers. Atlass in Cocoa Village insures for Florida at good rates.

Thank you very much for information!
35 parallel seems as northernmost end of NC.

Re: Plans messed up, advice needed!

Hi
I made a similar trip a few years ago in a Lagoon 440. I sailed from Tortola to San Juan, cleared in, and then to West Palm Beach. I had paying crew so the time constraints set the destination. Then we moved the boat to Beaufort, NC then out around Hatteras and on to New England.

I wish I had gone straight to Beaufort from San Juan. Clearing into the USA in PR is a wise idea since clearing in stateside is a headache. We took pictures of us meeting the customs guys and showed it the USCG when they boarded us because we transited the Bahamas. USCG in Palm Beach were really nice guys, too!
