Shortest route will be to head for gun cay and then turn north just inside of gun heading north exiting the banks just south of s. bimini. You will then enter bimini from the west side. Or you can go around the north side of bimini and enter from the west side, that being a little less direct.

From Nassau you go to NW Channel light. Then you have to cross the Great Bahama Bank. I prefer the route that goes to Mackie Shoal and North Rock. You may take the route slightly south that goes between Gun Cay and N. Cat cay. I prefer the North Rock route, this is the shortest and easiest route if you're going to Bimini.

No, Vasco & Dave are right!
You can only enter Bimini from the WEST. The Eastern side between North & South Bimini is shoal (actually drys @ low water).
See ➥ BIMINI_Entrance_Aerials - Cruisers & Sailing Photo Gallery

FWIW: I haven't been there in over 15 years.

In July we did that trip on our return from the Exuma Islands. We took the northern route and found plenty of water. I did the math, and it was only a few NM longer than going around Gun. We had never gone around the North End of the Island. It was scenic and I felt it did not add too much time to the trip.

We were there in July plenty of water in the marked channel. I seem to recall 12 ft+ all the way

Lisa, in another thread you asked about cruising in Belize. Is that still in your plans? Do you still need more information about it?

Belize not on current itinerary

Hi John,

And thanks for inquiring about my previous post. Unfortunately, I and the other crew members had to leave that boat ( where Belize would have been an end of winter destination ) due to mechanical and safety issues. At least this occurred in time for me to participate in the Caribbean 1500, then help one of my favorite Captain's deliver a boat from the Caribbean to Key West. Just arrived back home on Cape Cod and am looking for selective sailing opportunities for this winter and spring, in case you hear of anything : )

Happy Holidays and Fair Winds to you.
All the Best,

Lisa
