List of Restaurant Names and Locations - Exumas

Hello,
If there's already a post on this I apologize. I tried finding one and have not been able to discover what I'm looking for.

We are not new to sailing, but we are new to sailing Exumas. We typically cook on the boat for all meals except when we are able to hit a restaurant where we can dinghy in. We do this in part because we are lazy but mostly because we LOVE experiencing the local food.

I'm trying to find a list of restaurants (we aren't picky - in fact hole-in-the-wall places are our favorite! - we don't want to spend all our time cooking and we don't want PBJs or the like for all our other meals). So all restaurant opinions aside (we are still interested in hearing about your faves, but we don't want to eliminate options based on personal opinions). We are all about eating local whenever possible.

We will be sailing for 8 days and are currently working on our Nassau roundtrip itinerary (sailing end of February) We don't want to limit our experiences simply to catch the restaurants, but we do want to know what's available. The best I've found is a NavTours guide, but it indicates a restaurant (indicated by a dot - with no additional details) at various stops without including any names or other details about the restaurant(s).

It would be helpful to know any of the following:

Restaurant Name
Hours / Days of operation
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner options
Reservations required?
Dinghy dock?
Mooring or Anchor
Located in good overnight place? Yes/No/Maybe

Also, any grocery stores where they might have an option for sandwiches or other quick foods may suffice in lieu of a restaurant.

Or if there's a way to dinghy in and catch a taxi we would consider this as well. We are all about checking out the islands, so this would also be a great option.

Any information/advice you may be able to provide is greatly appreciated!

Search “great exuma” on trip advisor......have suggestions, maps and reviews, can go to restaurants web site for menus, hours, etc.
Go to marinas.com, also have info as to how to access local food.

If your only there for a week I would suggest enjoying the restaurants when you get back home. Although we love the Exumas and go every year we sure do not go for the cuisine.

If you are round tripping for only eight days, leaving and returning to Nassau, i dont think you will reach any of the Cays in the Exumas that have restaurants. Exception is Highborne has a restuarant near marina. You might be able to reach Staniel Cay Yacht Club on Staniel, Lorraines on Black Point possibly. Nassau of course has many choices. Grocery stores in the smaller cays typically dont have ready made meals, or at least ive never seen them. Its usually an adventure to find fresh produce. One of the beauties of the northern section of the Exumas is being remote, not really known for dining opportunities. Explorer chartbooks would be best source to answer what is available on each cay.

From personal experience, beachfront Augusta Bay Lodge on Great Exuma, a short cab ride or healthy walk along the main road from Georgetown, has a decent restaurant/bar but it's best to call ahead. There's also another good one right next door as well as several in Georgetown itself.

Your kind of taking the adventure out of exploring, discovering and experiencing a new place. We like to go on a little restaurant/bar crawl. Stop in, have a beer, look at the menu, check the place out, then move on. When it's time to eat, go back to whatever looked interesting.

Re: List of Restaurant Names and Locations - Exumas

Go to the Exumas for the beautiful waters and islands - not for the restaurants. You will find a few that are good and fun but don’t go for that reason. Taxis don’t exist - no need to anyway. And you will not find stores with deli sandwiches.

Provisioning:
Provision in Nassau - period! If you are only out for 8 days you can get all you need there. Fish along the way (except in the park!) Other than that you will find only small stores with basic items and produce. Highbourne cay has a store at the marina. Staniel Cay has 3 small stores (Pink store, Blue store and Isles General) and Black Point on Great Guana Cay (if you make it that far) has a couple small stores.

Restaurants:
Highbourne Cay - very nice restaurant (Xuma) at the marina (need reservation).
Norman’s Cay - nice restaurant called McDuff’s (need reservation)
Staniel Cay - most popular is the Staniel Cay Yacht Club by the marina. Also there is a purple restaurant (walking distance from the yacht club).
Fowl Cay - private island that accepts outside guests for dinner depending on availability Very nice but very pricy. Need reservation! Call a couple days in advance for availability.
Black Point on Great Guana Cay - Lorraines is wonderful. Also her mom bakes fresh coconut bread (her house is right behind Lorraine’s - go in the morning) There are quite a few other options for eating that seem to be open all the time - just walk around to find them.

It’s doubtful you would make it past Staniel if you even make it that far. 8 days is not a lot of time if you are sailing out of and back in to Nassau. Bring your food, take your time and enjoy the beauty and serenity!

Thank you for sharing a list of your favorite restaurants. I would advise you to visit the Tapa Toro restaurant in Orlando. I believe that the restaurant manager does his job responsibly because the service staff does their job well, and all dishes are served on time. Most of all, I am crazy about Spanish cuisine, which is always able to surprise me with new recipes. The menu includes not only national dishes but also seafood. Tapa Toro is a famous restaurant, so we often see celebrities there.
