Here We Go Again!

Hola amigos.

Well, tomorrow I'm off. Gonna try this ICW thing again. This time I'll be armed with Chief Engineer's expert repairs, my nautical knowledge, and Paul Blais' Chesapeake Bay expertise because he graciously offered to come along and lend a hand.

Like many others, I've started a blog recently. I guess I figured that everyone should have a diary, if only for historical reasons. Plus, it just seems fun. I'll be posting more than just sailing stuff on it, but the plan is to update it at least daily with the goings on from the journey down the ditch. The Admiral, afterall, wants to know that everything is going well. After all, she's toughing it out in Maine again with the kids while I get to do this, so I guess she deserves to know.

That means that you guys can also keep tabs on me if you like. I'll post here occasionally too, but the main feed will be to the blog. Here's the link to my latest post:

Sails and Stars: Getting Ready to Sail

Wish me luck! Lord willing I'll have Icefire safely tied up in Charleston in a couple weeks.

Cheers!

I just remembered....

One more thing.

A couple of people who were going to be along with me on this trip won't be. My pal from down here bailed this morning, and my Dad can't go except for 3 days because he work has gotten crazy. That leaves me and Paul once Dad goes, but I think he's only got a week to spare.

So......

Anyone in North Carolina want to spend a few days late next week helping me get the rest of the way down to Charleston once Paul leaves for home? I can drive you home once we get there.

I'm sure I could singlehand it here safely, but seeing as this is my first journey through these waters, I'd rather not.

Alrighty.....Have a great night!

Alexei,

My wife and I traveled down the ICW last winter starting in CT, we are now in FL. It can be challenging, but mostly beautiful and fun. Just watch the depth and follow markers closely you should have no probems. The waterway guide and skipper bobs anchoring books were a great help. We look forward to following your progress and reading your blog.... Good Luck

What's your destination in Charleston? We've been in the area most of summer. If going solo in ICW make sure you can access vhf from cockpit. Makes bridge communication much easier.

Another update

Foresailbyowner:

I live in Mount Pleasant. I have a mooring buoy in the Ashley River, right across from the Charleston City Marina. I'll be tying up there. How long are you going to stay? We should hook up for beers if nothing else.

And now to the update:

Sails and Stars: Laid Up

Read and enjoy....though this one wasn't as fun as the last.

Alexei,
Were tentatively sticking around till thanksgiving. We've been hanging around Folly river near Sunset Cay Marina. I've been helping my brother out with his recently purchased boat. FYI coast guard recently moved buoys so river is more navigable. Beers sound great. Working on a boat on speights rd in Mount Pleasant now. Will keep an eye on your blog and I'm you when you get close.
