Guam...isn't that the land of the Gwamish peoples?

Put it on a ship. Better, sell it, give it away, sell tickets to it's final sail, and buy yourself another when you get back. Much cheaper.

That's what people said about Frolic when she was in Cabo San Lucas, and I was in San Francisco.

Shadow, if you love the boat, and she is capable. Do your research, and sail her home. You will never regret it, but do be sure to get the wind on the quarter. Even if it means a circumnavigation

Shadow,

Check out Jimmy Cornell's book for some ideas. From memory, the recommended route back from Japan is to sail east at about 34 north and when you reach 160 east longitude set a course on the great circle route for your port. Bring an extra box of crackers, it's a long trip.

Hey Wolf,

Knew a couple that went from Palau to Hawaii the very less travelled way. No kidding, they hitched the counter current north of the equator to nearly south of Hawaii and went north. Then it's an easy jump sorta up and over to Cali. Look up oscar & noaa on google and you can see what the current is up to. guam to and thru yap is fairly easy, btw...little bit more to the whole trip but not much.....best part is you can stop over at Olimario in Yap which is uninhabited, tropical paradise, etc...

best - Jay

Where's the fun and adventure in THAT?! Sail it--that's what sailboats are for.

Container or deck

There are actually a number of ways to ship the boat. Getting enough time off from the military to sail the boat back is probably pretty unlikely. Besides having the boat containered (depending on the size), it's also possible to have it shipped on deck which might be as cheap.

On the other hand, if you're not absolutely enamored with the boat, it really might be wisest to sell it and purchase something in your next duty station... Stateside boat prices are quite decent at the moment in the used market.

Hi Shadow,

I'm trying to Guam and back to San Francisco. Spent time in Guam and now in the process of taking my first basic keelboat lessons. 21/2 more years to go and I will be there. Good luck. Tell me which course you will be taking.

Hey wolf long time no hear. Lost track of you after your initial work with the boat. Sounds like you got her in sailable condition.

Unless the military will pay to ship it I agree with others to sell it and buy another when you get back.
