Folly Beach to Key Largo

Howdy,

We are preparing to depart Folly Beach next week on a 30' Catalina with our ultimate destination being the Bahamas. We are planning on bouncing down the east coast to Key Largo and then crossing to Bimini and beyond. We would like to avoid the winding course of the ICW thru SC and GA and are looking for advice about good one and two-day "jumps" on the outside down the coast. We are not newbie sailors but we don't have a ton of blue water experience, either. Thanks in advance.

Once you get outside I would keep going until I got to St Mary's Inlet. There is a nice anchorage inside and to the north behind Cumberland Island or get a slip at Fernandina. It will take too long to come inside and back out again along the SC/Ga coast for it to make that worthwhile.

Then you can go down the ICW or outside as weather and crew demand. But in any case go outside from Lake Worth to Miami to avoid the dozens and dozens of bridges.

St Augistine, Port Canaveral, Ft Pierce and Lake Worth are all fairly easy in and out spots with anchorages near the inlet.
