They'd been bailing for quite awhile, it seemed, and would have been scared but for all the beer they'd already consumed, judging by the number of empty cans. At least they weren't litter bugs.

I ran aground trying to get to them initialially, so I'm not real thrilled to say the least, and when I got to them and rescued their sorry asses, what they needed was a screwdriver. Yes, friends, a screwdriver. Not a phillips, or a torx, or a square driver or anything sexy, just a plain ol' normal f-ing screw driver.

I have no tolerance for helpless/clueless people.

So they didn't need a radio either.
All they really needed was more beer.

What was the point of this thread?
Oh ya, Crazy Canucks. French on the VHF, bla bla bla

My Father had a VHF on The Great South Bay (LI) never got the license. Said he didn't want to talk to anyone any way. He was glad he had it when the bay got rough one day and shook all the caulk out of his seams. Got a ticket for using a radio without a license even though it was a mayday call. (He had a 55' 1903 Mathews Triple cabin, he lived on it with my mother for another 15 years.)

I hope he fought the ticket,,, if he did he would have won,,, any person is allowed to use a VHF radio in an emergency situation without a license,,
The Telecommunications Act of 1996 permits recreational boaters to have and use a VHF marine radio, EPIRB, and marine radar without having an FCC ship station license.

havent heard of anyone getting a ticket lately for using vhf without a license--but i have heard of those getting ticket for NOT having a vhf on board. is always YOUR choice --IS IN THE LIST OF THINGS REQUIREDTO HAVE ON BOARD DURING A SAFETY INSPECTION.

Checked the USCG and California lists of required equipment for recreational boats and neither requires having a radio aboard.

I don't remember the outcome, I was about 11 at the time.

personally i like the fact that while on the water, the whole "border" issue is null and void. I say NO to boundries, therefore NO to stereotypes
