Elizabeth City to Ocracoke - Advice ?

We are in Elizabeth City and want to go to Ocracoke. The weather looks good coming up and we are wonderimg about stops and anchorages along the way or we might do an overnight trip. Manteo is supposed to be nice, but active captain is not so hot on the anchorage. Thoughts? Anyone been to spencer creek off croatan sound (recommended in a '93 cruising guide) or know any other anchorages on the way?

Re: Elizabeth City to Ocracoke, advice?

Much of the Outer Banks is still closed from damage due to the hurricane and many roads were washed out. A lot of the Marinas and services are also closed so I would suggest you do some local research before you head out. Chuck

Re: Elizabeth City to Ocracoke - Advice ?

We do not require a marina or services. I spoke to someone in Ocracoke today and they said everything in the area was back to normal, he couldn't speak to anything on the far north of the banks, but he seemed surprised I asked about the hurricane. I am curious what the current situation is.

I was just in Manteo two weeks ago. It looked like there were plenty of anchorages and the marinas and town were up and running fine

You can also tie up to the city dock for 24hrs free in Manteo.
