Would this Work . . . Buy US / Sell Australia ?

If I bought something like a Robertson Caine or Lagoon Cat for $200K in say BVI and sailed her to Australia to leave with a broker, would I make $100k profit?

Or perhaps a newer Beneteau or Jenneau monohull?

From the previous thread about boats being so expensive in Australia and the examples of $180k boats listed for $700K it would seem possible?

I could not think of a nicer way to make a good income for a year!

Just met another Aussie yesterday doing exactly that with an ex-charter cat from Moorings BVIs. Three other Aussie boats in the Bahamas, all taking advantage of poor US economy and high Aussie dollar.

If you are serious, you better not lose too much time. Once the China bubble pops and the mining boom draws to a close, it will become hard to sell a boat in Oz....

We are finalising on a second hand Lagoon 44 ex USA taking delivery in the New Year.
We plan to sail the Virgins and Pacific for three or four years.

Believe me making money out of buying and selling boats is nigh on impossible, iv'e been building them for a long while and the only money iv'e made is in real estate, our purchase will be some 300k cheaper than the equivelent Aussie boat maybe just maybe we might sell back in Australia in 5 yrs time and cover costs.

Aussie mining boom ain't going away real soon i can tell you that!!!!!

Re: Would this Work ? Buy US / Sell Australia

Went to look through a couple of Cats in St Thomas a few days ago, but they were off to Australia o all places, snapped up and off to the Panama Canal. The US is running out of cheap boats thanks to Australia. Half a dozen Benetaus landed in Melbourne last month, the market is hot, but it seems that in boats and aircraft it's only new vessels or bargains that are selling well, the stuff in the middle is lingering.
