Re: Why I want to be a Captain
Is he wrong though?
How about a poll.
1. He’s right.
2. He’s wrong.

Re: Why I want to be a Captain
I always thought people wanted to be a captain to seem more important on boat forums
I disregard most here with a "captain" user name

Re: Why I want to be a Captain
Unfortunately, the world has started throwing captains in jail for their mistakes, or worse, mistakes made by other people. It takes the edge off.

That kid is now all grown up... I meet him on the water often.

I don't know who said it, but it is totally true..."Everyone wants to be captain until there is captain S&$! to do!"

Re: Why I want to be a Captain
I only used that title once, when I set up my account here. It was kind of a running joke around getting my master's ticket. Apparently some here take it seriously. Sorry if I offended anyone.
Anyway, all my kid relatives want to be "Captain" when they come aboard. I'm tempted to hand them a deck brush, wax or a wrench, but I'd hate to ruin their illusions so young.

Re: Why I want to be a Captain
The editor’s note at the top states the piece was written by an anonymous 10 year old. I surmise from the writer’s observations that his first name was Ron, who later in fact became a famous Captain.

The editor's note says the author was 10.
Also sounds like it was written around 1960.

Re: Why I want to be a Captain
When I was in the Coast Guard down in cajun country, shrimpers all called each other "Cap"
And all Coasties were "Chief"
