What is the more useless thing that all boaters have?
As above asked,
here is a new post to add what you consider to be more more useless thing to have in a boat but that most boaters have. My guess: Flags.
Flags serve nothing to the boat...

The most useless thing is entrenched ideas that they are not open to examining!
Country flags are part of courtesy. In a pinch you could make an emergency bandage out of one.

Re: What is the more useless thing that all boaters have?
I guess you may not be aware of different country regulations to boaters in their home countries. The Spanish flag, and many south american flags, are a limitation to sea lovers to sail freely a boat.
However, let's come with another example for useless thing aboard. from my point of view, country flags are outdated, obsolete things from the past. What else has become obsolete but many boaters have?

The most useless thing I found on board was a Enya cd. Somebody not only had the audacity to bring on board but then they left it there.......It is no longer on board!!!!

Ouch. I would consider most of those as necessary. Need to know if a storm is coming and I have had to dead recon into a harbor in fog when my instrumentation gave out. Oil lamps I could replace with good, quality LED lanterns.

A can of sardines in mustard sauce,... Oh, and the vast majority of my socket set. The hot water heater.

You're looking at it all wrong. You can use the sardines to catch fish for dinner. The socket set to throw at seagulls trying to poop on your boat, and the hot water heater to keep the wife, girlfriend, mistress, or chick you picked up at the bar happy. Think ahead my man

Re: What is the more useless thing that all boaters have?
chronometer..for watch length, is necessary.
barometer to trend... useful
bell.. useful--good tool for calling french baker to boat....
useless... fleecewear in tropics.
vhs tape of a family reunion... watch it?? yeah right....but the tape is good for tell tales when the frigate birds have destroyed your wind instruments on mast head...
hhmmmmm.....
even those cardboard egg cartons have uses..as plant starter pots...grow foods from seeds...
hhmmmm.....aerosol bug spray cans, or any non reusable aerosol type space occupier.....
they have absolutely no use..... oh well, mebbe as a weapon,, clobber an intruder with it .... hhmmmm
hot water heater could well be useless..i dont have one, i am a girl, and i am in tropics. lol....

A wife!
She is not of much value for running the boat but I would be lonesome without her!

Re: What is the more useless thing that all boaters have?
Most books, not the exchange reading books, but the reference books. I have about 30 and might read 1 page per month, 12 pages per year amongst 30 books.
Maybe i could write the right 12 page book?
