Two boats versus one

Please forgive if this thread exists, I have been lurking a bit and could not find it.

Has anyone considered, from a financial perspective, owning two boats instead of one. If you had a few favorite cruising areas, for instance, the Caribbean and the Med, you could buy two smaller, older, cheaper boats instead of a more reliable bluewater cruiser.

Then again you might be hurt on the additional storage fees.

Did anyone crunch the numbers on this or does anyone have this kind of setup?

If you can afford it, why not? If you can afford it, smaller, older, cheaper boats would not be necessary. The difficulty comes with being able to use both boats at the same time. No one has been able to figure that out yet, and costs do concern most people. You would be paying full time for boats that you could only use half the time. With real estate, which may increase in value, having more than one house might make sense. For boats, it does not. To enable sailing in two far-apart areas, chartering comes to mind. You wouldn’t have the capital costs, marina or maintenance costs, or the worry about things that needed fixing before you could cast off or that would need fixing once you completed your cruise.

It’s been done many times... not a bad choice

Also consider a container boat

The largest boat that can fit inside a 40 ft shipping container

Get the urge to cruise Chile ,,,,ship the container

Cruise over , back inside the container and stored i a cheap location
